We invest in technology and capabilities that can be applied to products and services in each of the global markets we serve.

Job specification:
My client has taken a decision to target the rapidly developing civil nuclear power market. This represents a significant initiative and is intended to allow us to extend and develop our nuclear expertise into new markets for the Company. Our strategy is to exploit our nuclear capabilities to create a business focusing on new build manufacturing and services, in service reactor plant support and lifetime extension, and future concept development activities.

These positions are available at their new office in Warrington.

Person specification:
Opportunities exist within our engineering team for design engineers who will specify, design, develop, test and support through-life the mechanical plant and equipment (including but not limited to pressure vessels and major mechanical components) to be installed in new nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities:
Detailed design and specification of reactor components (vessels, pumps, valves).

Design substantiation of reactor components including stress, fatigue and fracture analysis.

Liaison with suppliers (internal and external) to ensure components are cost-effectively manufactured to meet design requirements.

Undertake risk assessments in accordance with UK legislation.

Experience:
Educated to degree level or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, you will be experienced in capturing requirements, understanding the development of effective solutions and be able to describe the impact of design decisions on cost and manufacture.

A comprehensive understanding of component design with knowledge of the design standards applicable to the nuclear industry would be an advantage. Ideally you will have knowledge in structural integrity and failure mechanisms analysis of components and systems and previous knowledge in a nuclear environment.

You will negotiate, influence, and communicate effectively with internal and external customers at all levels and be able to deal effectively with ambiguity and multiple problems whilst working under pressure. You will be familiar with commonly used CAD software and the use of MS Office tools.

Membership of an engineering professional institute would be preferable.

Good communication skills are essential as well as the ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work to process and procedure is mandatory, and PC literacy is crucial.

In return, we offer excellent development prospects, coupled with the salary and benefits you would expect of an internationally renowned and successful organisation.

We are an equal opportunities employer.
